| The role of “wise counselor” is one that is revered in American Indian culture. Elders have traditionally played these all important roles, because as a people, we know that long lives, combined with personal integrity, lead to wisdom and knowledge. Our elders lead us – teach us – and show us how to live healthy, productive lives. But sometimes there are those in our community whose wisdom seems to contradict their age. They are men and women of impeccable reputation, whose words carry weight and meaning. It is these people, along with our elders, that we respectfully ask to lead us through Board membership. We are grateful for our Board’s wise counsel and leadership as we daily endeavor to meet the ever-increasing needs of our Native peoples.
Administrative Staff of OKCIC:
When you walk in our door, you are not just a patient. You are a family member – a sick brother; a hurting sister; an honorable elder; a precious child. We understand your heritage and the challenges you face as an American Indian living in an urban area – they are the same challenges we face every day.
