| Pre-Diabetes Class at OKCIC | ||
This class takes two hours. The first hour is devoted to Diabetes education and is taught by our Registered Nurse. Topics covered include lifestyle choices that contribute to Diabetes, differences between Type I and Type II Diabetes, how Diabetes affects your body and heart, potential long-term consequences, and how to make changes to prevent Diabetes onset. The second hour focuses on good nutrition and its importance in preventing or delaying the onset of Diabetes, with a registered dietician. Healthy nutrition choices are presented and discussed. We emphasize that this isn’t about going on a diet, it is about making healthy choices on an every day basis, choices that promote good health. Lowering fat intake and eating less of foods with high sugar content are the goals. It isn’t necessary to eliminate any particular food at all, we just encourage our clients to eat less of some foods and more good healthy fruits and vegetables. The importance of nutrition and exercise cannot be overstated. It has been shown that pre-diabetics who lose just 7 to 10 percent of body weight, lower their dietary fat intake, and increase their exercise, dramatically reduce their chance of developing Diabetes. Diabetes can be prevented. Our Pre-Diabetes Class shows you how. For more information on these important, life-saving programs, please call (405) 948-4900, ext. 212 to speak confidentially to one of our skilled staff.
