Family and Youth Fitness Program
This program provides Native youth and their families a variety of physical activity opportunities that support family wellness and increased fitness.  The family and youth fitness program will offer a series of fitness programs throughout the year. Come join the fun!!!

Family and Youth Fitness Application 2011  Release of Liability Form 2011

  • Saturday Sports Clinics.  The OKCIC Health Promotion Disease Prevention Program (HPDP) is offering monthly sports clinics to 20 Native youth. 
  • Family Fun Nights.  The HPDP department is partnering with the Behavioral Health department to host family fun nights every other month starting in January.  The evening will consist of family and youth fitness program updates, educations, food, and fun activities.  All family fun nights will be held at the OKCIC. 
  • Rock Climbing. The OKCIC partnered with Touchstone Youth Project and Rocktown for a weekly climbing program.  Currently 8 kids are enrolled in the program. 
  • Other Events. The Family and Youth Fitness program will also offer kayaking, frisbee golf and archery events in the summer.  Please come to the family fun nights to learn more about all the programs offered throughout the year. 
  • Fitness Classes. The HPDP department will offer weekly fitness classes at the Wellness Center to children who receive a referral but are too young for the wellness center equipment.  The classes will be offered on Mondays after 5:00 pm. 
 

After School Program

  • 12 week nutrition and physical activity program for Native youth 2nd-5th graders.
  • Children receive a bike and helmet if complete program (must attend 9 of the 11 sessions and complete pre and post assessments)
  • Educations include: nutrition, diabetes prevention, tobacco, self esteem and bullying

 

Turtle Camp

TURTLE (Teaching Urbans Roads to Lifestyle and Exercise) Camp is a diabetes prevention camp for Native youth ages 6-12 years old.  The camps are offered several times a year.  In 2011, the HPDP department will have two 3-day camps in the spring and fall then will expand the camp into a 12 session summer program with two 2-day camps.
